On the evening of Holy Thursday, 9 April 2026, His Eminence Archbishop Nikitas of Thyateira and Great Britain visited the Greek Orthodox Church of St Demetrios in Edmonton, where he presided at the Service of the Holy Passion.
The solemn service, centred on the reading of the Twelve Gospel passages, led the faithful through the final moments of the Lord’s earthly life – from betrayal to crucifixion. The congregation followed in stillness and devotion, entering into the depth of the Passion narrative as it unfolded within the liturgical life of the Church.
At the conclusion of the service, His Eminence offered a brief reflection, speaking of the Cross as the ultimate expression of divine love and self-offering. He encouraged the faithful to remain steadfast in their Lenten struggle, not as an end in itself, but as a path leading to the light of the Resurrection. He also expressed his appreciation for the reverence and devotion shown by the clergy and parishioners of St Demetrios.
