On Sunday, 26 April 2026, the Sunday of Thomas, His Eminence Archbishop Nikitas of Thyateira and Great Britain presided at Matins and concelebrated the Divine Liturgy at the Church of St George in Kingston-upon-Thames. He was joined by the Priest-in-Charge, the Very Revd Archimandrite Aemilianos Papadakis, together with the Revd Archdeacon George Tsourous.
Among those present were distinguished guests, including Her Excellency Maria Kriari, Director of the Consular Office of the Embassy of the Hellenic Republic, accompanied by her husband.
In his homily, His Eminence reflected on the figure of Saint George, drawing attention to the meaning of his name – Georgios, the one who tills the land. Developing this image, he spoke of the Christian calling to cultivate not the earth alone, but the human heart, inviting the faithful to consider how they might “till” their own souls through repentance, prayer, and a life rooted in Christ.
Following the Divine Liturgy, the parish hosted a festive community gathering in the church grounds. The celebration reflected the joy of the Paschal season, with traditional Cypriot food prepared and shared, including freshly grilled souvlakia, alongside activities and offerings for families and children.
The event brought together parishioners of all ages in a warm atmosphere of fellowship and celebration, while also supporting the parish’s charitable initiatives, including its food bank and future projects.
The day stood as a joyful continuation of the Resurrectional spirit, strengthening the bonds of the community and its witness in the wider area.
